Hang on, it’s only March!

I know we’ve had three consecutive losses and no wins in five, but I think some fans believe our season is quite literally over. We have nine games left and although there are nine points between the bottom and ourselves, I wouldn’t take safety for granted. Nor however, would I confine myself to relegation and demand Slav’s sacking. It’s been a weird week for the club since the loss to Leicester many have gone into meltdown. The loss was especially painful …

Sullivan apologises for loss Our co owner David Sullivan has apologised for our 2-3 defeat to Leicester on Saturday in his weekly column on the club website. The 68 year old said, talking about Saturdays game, “ All we can do is say sorry, as I have learnt in many decades it’s never easy being a West Ham supporter and we all know we have to do better”. Valencia on song for Everton as Martinez continues to be key for Oxford

Enner Valencia – Everton The forward was introduced into the game in the 77th minute shortly after Hull City were reduced to 10 men. The score at that time was 1-0 to Everton but Valencia scored just one minute after coming on. He then set up Lukaku for Everton’s third in their 4-0 win. Tony Martinez – Oxford United Martinez played 83 minutes from the start of Oxford’s 2-1 home win against Scunthorpe. Oxford came from …

Pearson’s Premier League Roundup as the Hammers slip to 12th

West Ham drop into 12th place in the league table courtesy of a 3-2 loss to Leicester but are still only outside the top half on goal difference. It is now three defeats in a row for the Hammers and five games without a win. Leicester move to within three points of West Ham but stay in 15th place. That win was their third in a row in the league and they have now scored nine goals in three games since changing manager…

Having been a defender himself why can’t Bilic sort out ours?

Sitting in my seat approximately 200 miles away from the pitch at the London Stadium for yesterday’s game against Leicester City, even I could see we cannot defend. The clause in the contract which states that West Ham must give the opposition at least a 1 goal lead in the first 5 minutes of a match also needs to be taken out. As we all know, football is a relatively easy game to …

Talking points from the Hammers defeat to the resurgent Champions and player ratings

Lackadaisical defence costs Hammers again Our hopes of our first 3 points were dashed within 8 minutes of our Premier League clash yesterday with a shabby defence being infiltrated for 2 quick fire Foxes goals. Pedro Obiang gave the ball way in midfield, a poor performance from him before going off injured, to allow Riyad Mahrez a shot at goal, last year’s PFA player of the year curled it into the far corner. Darren Randolph has received…

Some statistics from West Ham’s defeat to Leicester

Possession In terms of ball possession we had the better of the reigning champions of England yesterday afternoon. They do say in some matches possession doesn’t mean a thing and that was certainly the case in yesterdays 2-3 defeat to the Foxes. Shots on/off target Yesterdays 5 goal thriller certainly wasn’t without its fair share of goal mouth action. We had 13 efforts with 7 of them on target whereas Leicester managed just 6 shots with 5 of them directly at goal. It is clear to …

Pearson Previews the Premier League as West Ham aim to end Leicester revival

West Ham go into their game at home to Leicester on the back of four games without a win. A good run in January elevated the Hammers into mid table but following recent defeats they could see them miss out on a top half finish. After Leicester’s game in midweek however, they may have the chance to turn this around. Before their last two wins Leicester were in serious danger of relegation but …

Should he stay or should he go?

Football can be an unforgiving and fickle beast. One minute you are lifting the Premier League trophy, the next you are unemployed. This season, we at West Ham have already been the victim of just how fickle football can be. A certain French midfielder (sorry but can’t quite remember his name) was signing a lucrative new contract with a loyalty bonus and the next thing we knew was refusing to play and on a plane back to …

Season ticket prices frozen, Carroll for England, throwback Thursday and on this day in 2002

Joint chairmen freeze season ticket prices It has been announced this week in a statement from David Gold and David Sullivan that season ticket prices will remain the same for existing season ticket holders. Ever since the two Cockneys took over in 2010 they have promised affordable family football and they certainly delivered on that pledge when season ticket prices were slashed as far down as £99 for u16s for our first season at the London Stadium. This season the club reported…

The West Ham United Loan Report

Enner Valencia – Everton Valencia spent the 3-0 home win over West Brom on the bench. A defensive change at half time and the fact that Everton looked like comfortable winners in this game likely meant that he was not called upon. Tony Martinez – Oxford United The forward only played a total of 17 minutes over Oxford’s two games this past week but he did manage to score once in that time. He was introduced with…

Pearson’s Roundup of the Premier League (and FA Cup)

West Ham looked to have secured a point away at Bournemouth following Andre Ayew’s goal seven minutes from time. Bournemouth however came back again and scored in the final minute to hand the Hammers their second defeat in a row. After a turn in form in January the side now have not won for the last four games but remain comfortable in mid table. Bournemouth however took a large step closer to Premier League survival with…

Is it the beginning of the end for Mark Noble?

Stating the name Mark Noble to a fellow West Ham 3 years ago would usually be greeted with a smile and two crossed arms to symbolise what the man behind the name meant to us. Now, however, if you uttered the same name, you can expect to be frowned at and told that he is “past it”. Being a young Hammers fan growing into the game of football, Mark couldn’t have found himself in…

Bilic needs to be doing more than putting square pegs in round holes

The weekend’s defeat at Bournemouth once again exposed the very real problem of Bilic using players in positions that they are neither used to playing or indeed capable of doing so. Kouyate at right back is the most obvious of these. Without doubt one of the best players at the Club, Kouyate is a box to box midfield player, not afraid to take on his man, he provides a real thrust and …

Talking points from Bournemouth, Payet speaks about why he left and Hammers after Zabaleta and Gray

Bournemouth stats Let’s begin by running through the stats from yesterday afternoons 3-2 defeat down on the South Coast at the hands of Bournemouth. Possession: Unlike many other League games this season, we were not on top in terms of possession at the Vitality Stadium. The hosts had the edge in terms of keeping the ball with 52% possession to our 48% possession. Shots on and off target: The game was not without its fair share of goal mouth action with the…

Pearson Previews West Ham’s Premier League weekend (and the FA Cup too)

West Ham United travel to face Bournemouth this weekend with a draw being enough to move them into the top half of the league. Bournemouth on the other hand need to pick up points before they slide closer to the bottom three. The Hammers have scored 13 goals in their last seven games and face a defence which will be missing key players through suspension. Goal difference could be important going forward and a three goal victory would move them into 9 th place…

Darwen looks to reinstate the “identity”

The new, unknown, West Ham manager Chris Darwen has reason to be feeling somewhat smug as we meet in his plush training ground office. Seven points from his first three Premier League games in charge plus a successful navigation to the Europa League group stages suggest that Darwen might surprise a few of the naysayers in the international media. Since accepting the offer from Sullivan, Gold and Brady to follow in the shortlived footsteps of Slaven Bilic, a…

Keep tabs on Valencia, Martinez, Cullen and the other West Ham lads in our Loan Report

Enner Valencia – Everton Introduced in the 81st minute, the forward was able to grab a late consolation goal as Everton lost 3-2 away at Tottenham. It is unlikely to grant him a start in the coming weeks, but being able to make an impact from the bench will surely bring him more minutes in future. In fact, you might be able to find some good betting offers for him to …

PES Predicts West Ham vs Chelsea

We’re on for another PES Predicts, as inconsistent West Ham welcome champions elect Chelsea to the London Stadium. It’s no Upton Park, is it? PES 2017 is loaded up and ready, running track or no running track, let’s get it on. I think Andy Carroll will return to the Hammers’ lineup, …

West Ham marksman Carroll back in trading as he bids to dent Chelsea top flight hopes

Andy Carroll has started nine Premier League games for West Ham so far this season. And in those matches the big striker has found the net six times. That’s a superb return from the Hammers ace; one which he is in contention to add to when Slaven Bilic’s men host league leaders Chelsea – if he can win his battle back to fitness. So far, so good for the former Newcastle…

The West Ham Way Part One

The Manifesto. It’s time to call a spade a spade. West Ham have lost some of their identity, have they not? Not just because of the move away from Upton Park, no, I am talking bigger and longer ago than that. Look at the name of this website. Moore Than A Club. Does that even mean anything anymore, in this corporate day and age? It’s not just the Hammers, granted. Many …
