Manuel Pellegrini was talking like a man who knows all business is done at today’s presser and the focus switched very firmly onto the weekend game against City.

As was always his aim he now has two players in each squad position which is great news for him and us.

There’s little doubt that much homework was done and it’s so refreshing to see that despite assurances to the contrary – it’s called smoke and mirrors of course – he, Husillos and the board have gone for it.

In real terms the next spent has been £16 million above the £30 million mentioned way back at the start of the window and that’s without the Premier League consolidation fees which amount to five per cent of every deal.

The final arrival – the striker we were all screaming for from way back – is a highly promising player and Pellegrini now appears also to have finally switched Antonio from wide midfield to central striker permanently given his words this morning.

And that puts paid to those daft rumours that Michail..

West Ham’s net spend including add-ons has reached £46.1m this summer or £35.7m without add-ons now that Ajeti has been officially confirmed and that excludes the millions paid in agent fees, 4% Premier League fees or 5% FIFA solidarity payments.

Stuttgart midfielder not joining West Ham

Reports from Argentina that West Ham could sign Stuttgart defensive midfielder Santiago Ascacibar today have no basis Claret and Hugh have been told. Transfer rumours on the Argentina player have been building all week with a suggestion that former Hammer Thomas Hitzlsperger now sporting director at VfB Stuttgart was playing a major role in making the transfer happen.

West Ham Supporters expect big things this season

Over 30% of 1,100 Claret and Hugh readers taking part in a poll believe West Ham will score 61-65 Premier League points this season with another 30% of readers saying 56-60 points is possible. Just over 15% of those voting said 51-55 points is doable while an optimistic 14% reckon West Ham can get to the dizzy heights of 66-70 points with 2% saying 71-75 points and a further 2% saying 76 points or above can be done!
