Another Hammer makes a personal donation to the cause

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has made a personal donation to the ‘Wave for Hope’ campaign to help his native Czech Republic in their fight against the current global health crisis. The 25-year-old, who is on loan from Czech Liga champions Slavia Prague won Czech Footballer of the Year in 2019 and is highly regarded in his own country.

Saints player breaks silence on wages deferment

Southampton vice-captain James Ward-Prowse says all the squad wanted to “repay” the local community after the Saints became the first Premier League side to announce player wage deferrals. The whole first-team squad and coaching staff, including manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, have deferred part of their salaries for April, May and June, to ensure non-playing staff continue to be paid. The figure for what percentage of their wages has been deferred has not been disclosed by the club but is thought to 10%.

CandH blogger Allen Cummings has taken the interlude in football as an opportunity to name his ten best players to ever wear the claret and blue. Mark Noble was handed 10th place and 60s striker Johnnuy ‘Budgie’ Byrne was in ninth. Home-grown Tony Cottee was his No 8 choice and another young Hammer protegee Martin Peters in seventh. Today we find our fiery Italia genius Paolo Dini Canio just failing to make the top five.
