
Dean Ashton was forced to retire from football at the age of just 26 in 2009 after failing to recover from a long-term ankle injury. Ashton, who turned 30 on Sunday, was a product of Crewe’s renowned youth academy. Norwich broke their transfer record to take the striker to Carrow Road in January 2005, and joined West Ham United a year later.
