Sunday’s game was one of those fixtures when we needed to be at our best, and I thought we were.
It’s was a game where we really challenged Liverpool, but across the board the controlling factors and managers of the game are the officials and I don’t think they managed the game very well.
I can be disappointed if we lose because the opposition have outplayed you, but if I’m honest, the talking points were the wrong talking points. We want to play a game of football and we want the team that wins to win through the way they’ve played, not through what decision the referee might or might not have got wrong.
We gave all we could give and tried our best to upset Liverpool’s winning streak, but unfortunately for us they’ve won on two penalties rather than their attractive football.
We now have nine days until our next fixture away at Arsenal so the likes of Kevin Nolan, who had to come off against Liverpool with a slight injury, will have the chance to get back to fitness.
I know the squad and staff are looking forward to Tuesday’s open training at the Boleyn Ground, as it will give the supporters a chance to have an exclusive look at some of the work we do on the training pitches at Chadwell Heath.
Come on you Irons !
