West Ham 0 Man City 5: What has happened to our beloved West Ham United Football club

What has happened to our beloved West Ham United football club, i’ve supported West Ham for 35+ years it’s never been easy, season in season out we’ve been crap apart from a few.

We’ve had some really shit results, some woeful players and even worse managers. But, we’ve always had unity, togetherness, West Ham UNITED! A club that I absolutely adore and love with all my heart.

On May 13th 2016 at 10.30pm West Ham United became West Ham.. No longer united, no longer held by a togetherness that we all swore would never be broken, no longer the club I love!.

As a non-native Eastender, I bore the ribbing from Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs fans whilst growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. I fcuking loved it. What these people never saw was the club I belonged to, the community of real football fans. A place where every weekend I did not want to leave and a place where every weekday I yearned to be!

I thought about West Ham morning, noon and night as a child and I fought morning, noon and night with those who dare knock our club.

I used to bunk off of school and make my way to Upton Park with a few mates who had also chosen the path of West Ham. We ran away from our biology teacher so we could make it to the bus to take us to the train station in time to make Ray Stewart’s testimonial. It was fcuking marvellous. Every time I stepped out of Upton Park tube station I felt a buzz that only those of you who have been there understand.

For years I followed us home and away. Taking over places such as Barnsley, Grimsby, Peterborough and Swindon. Going to Man Utd and Liverpool, getting fcuk all from the game but having the best time.

Home games, beating Man United with a shinner from Kenny Brown, Ludo stopping them from winning the league, on the pitch against Everton and Wrexham, Paolo’s goal against Wimbledon, Paolo’s tearful celebration against Chelsea, the play off semi final against Ipswich (I swear the stadium moved that night due to the atmosphere), the rollercoaster of 2006/2007 beating Man Utd home and away in a season where they won the league and we survived on the final day. Supporting West Ham was the best thing in the world. I walked away from my first wife for them ffs 🙂

Right up until May last year there are memories that will live with me forever. I was sceptical about the move but never in my wildest dreams did I envisage this. A stadium that is fit for every sport except football. Stewarding that is farcical. An atmosphere that is so far from what we had just 8 months ago. No soul, no more community. A matchday experience that I fcuking hate. Stop! Go! Westfield this way, West Ham that way! How is this progression?!.

Tonight wasn’t a disaster, it’s not like we haven’t seen a beating like that before. No, the disaster is the tourist crowd, the abstaining of real supporters from a game against Man City in the greatest domestic competition for fuck sake! We are on our knees, the board are destroying us and I’m fcuking heartbroken.

I’m not sure if I’m reminiscing and/or pleading for us all to unite and do something. What is the answer?
Do we all walk away?

Do we stage a protest inside/outside that place?

I feel dead inside tonight….
