West Ham will pick up just over €6m from the transfer of Pedro Obiang who has left the club for Italian outfit US Sassuolo. The two clubs agreed a fee of €7 million for the midfielder but the Hammers had to pay a five per cent Fifa solidarity payment to Atletico Madrid who looked after the player as a youngster and that worked out around €350k. And we understand that the player was also due a further €500,00 of his signing on fee which reduced the Hammers take out to just over €6 million. However, that could rise to closer to the £7 million fee with add ons based on appearances. Obiang and his wife – who wife is expecting a child – were desperate to move to Italy and the Hammers were not ready to stand in his way despite him having three years left on his contract.
The 27-year-old midfielder spent four years in east London, joining the club in summer 2015 from fellow Serie A team Sampdoria.
