Premier League Fixtures For August 31
The Premier League is now in full swing, and whether you like to follow the football as a casual fan or as a gambler, putting a personal stake in the events, it’s now time to start paying close attention to all of the fixtures. So with that in mind, here’s a look at this coming Saturday’s (the 31st) matches, which you can view updated at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sports/football/.
Hull vs. Manchester City at Etihad Stadium
Naturally, Man City is a major favourite in this match, as they are expected by many to win the Premier League outright, and Hull just isn’t on that level. Despite an unexpected loss to Cardiff City on the 25th, Man City are listed as having 3/20 odds for the match (to Hull City’s 14/1), making them the strong betting favourite. Particularly at Etihad Stadium, we know what will happen in this one.
Everton vs. Cardiff at Cardiff City Stadium
This should be one of the better matches of the weekend as, on paper, the teams suddenly look fairly evenly matched. Everton came into the league in better standing (by a touch), but Cardiff’s upset of Man City, as well as the fact that the match will take place at Cardiff City, make them the slight betting favourite on Saturday.
Fulham vs. Newcastle at St. James’ Park
This looks to be a match in strong favour of Newcastle. A 4-0 opening week loss to Man City and a 0-0 tie with West Ham weren’t an ideal start for Newcastle, but on the other hand Fulham looked dreadful in letting Arsenal get back on its feet with a 3-1 win. At St. James’ Park, Newcastle are strong favourites over a Fulham team that may be weaker than expected.
Southampton vs. Norwich at Carrow Road
Despite the match being played at Carrow Road, Southampton remain the betting favourites, and it’s not much of a surprise. Norwich City looks like a bottom-dweller in this year’s league, and a 1-0 loss to Hull City this past weekend didn’t inspire much confidence. We’ll predict that Southampton grabs a win on the road.
West Ham vs. Stoke City at Boleyn Ground
If all goes according to plan this coming weekend, West Ham should have a bit of a breather against Stoke City at Boleyn Ground. With even odds at 1/1 to win the match, West Ham is a heavy favourite following an impressive start to the league (though the 0-0 draw with Newcastle could have been a win).
Sunderland vs. Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park
This match-up of second tier clubs is by no means the most thrilling event of the weekend. At Selhurst, Crystal Palace are the slight betting favourites, despite an ugly loss to Stoke City last week. Sunderland is off to the better start, but is still a club without much hope in the league, playing on the road.
