Alvaro Arbeloa Turned Down AC Milan for West Ham

Alvaro Arbeloa is considered a great addition to the West Ham squad. For one, his arrival will allow Michail Antonio to play his favorite position, that of a goalscoring winger. But the former Liverpool full-back has revealed that, after being released by Real Madrid and before he signed with the Hammers, he was approached by AC Milan – and he turned the team down.

Advanced talks

AC Milan approached the 33-year-old player before his deal with West Ham, and the talks were quite advanced, he told the press. Things got complicated with the arrival of the new, Chinese leadership arriving at the Italian team complicated things, taking the discussions in a different direction, not to the player’s liking. This determined him to consider other options.

In an interview, Arbeloa said that he took his time to take a decision, as he was waiting to be convinced. For him, leaving Real Madrid was like “leaving heaven and finding a destination on Earth”. He said he turned down a series of offers received from various Spanish teams, as he didn’t want to wear any local shirt except for the Real Madrid one. In the end, he let himself be convinced by “the club, the city, and the coach”.

What’s next for the Hammers

The Hammers will face Watford next at home, hopefully with Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet on the field. Both players have been sidelined for a while, with nothing but Football Stars, the best of all football-inspired Royal Vegas casino slots. While Football Star is an amazing game, and the Royal Vegas does all it can to make players feel like home while there, it doesn’t compare to actually being on the field. The Royal Vegas provides its players with amazing games they can play at the stadium, with Royal Vegas Mobile that runs on any smartphone. But this doesn’t compare with stepping on the turf ahead of the game.

Both players might return to the turf when the Hammers host Watford at the London Stadium this Saturday. West Ham co-chairman David Gold expects both players to return to the field this week. Fans were likely relieved when Gold confirmed that the Hammers knocked back all interest in Dimi during the last transfer window. Rumors about the player possibly leaving London Stadium have circulated several times, but that never happened, as the club wanted Dimi to stay.

Andy Carroll might not make it to the game, though. During the team’s UEFA Europa League match against Romanian team Astra Giurgiu, Andy injured his knee after over-stretching it on a difficult playing surface, an incident that sidelined him for up to six weeks. The good news is, though, that Soso will be back, recovered from his injury suffered during the game against Juventus.
