Feghouli declares willingness to fight for West Ham place
Midfielder Sofiane Feghouli has declared his intention to fight for his place at West Ham United despite a disappointing maiden campaign at the London Stadium.
Feghouli, who started out his career at French minnows Grenoble Foot 38, had been widely tipped on bigfreebet.com to exit the club during the coming summer transfer window.
However, the player has declared his ambition to stay on at West Ham in an interview with French outlet RMC Sport, stating: “I have two years left at West Ham and as I said on social media, I see myself staying at West Ham. I’ll start again on the 10th of July with the team. I mean it when I say it, but you don’t control everything in football. I’m not looking for a way out, not at all.”
The French-born Algerian international managed just three goals and a further three assists for the east London club having arrived on a three year deal from Spanish side Valencia.
Feghouli made 20 appearances and only 11 starts for the Claret and Blues as he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.
West Ham fans will be desperately hoping that there is more to come from the 27-year-old winger and will likely be buoyed by his hunger to stay and fight for a place at the club.
His move to the Hammers had widely been seen as an incredible coup for the club with the player having delivered 31 goals and 40 assists in 202 appearances during his six year spell at the Mestalla Stadium.
Despite his limited opportunities last season, Feghouli has demonstrated during his career that his wicked turn of pace and ability to dribble at defenders means he is undoubtedly capable of developing into an important creative outlet for the club.
Feghouli’s poor form during the 2016-17 campaign was seemingly symptomatic of West Ham’s season as they struggled to adapt to life at their new season.
If the side are to recapture the form from their first season under the tutorage of Slaven Bilić, the likes of Feghouli will have to take it upon themselves to step-up to the levels that they are more than capable of delivering when the 2017-18 season comes around.
West Ham kick-off the new season on 12th August, when they face Manchester United away from home.
