Manuel Pellegrini is refusing to to throw in the towel and continues to talk in terms of European qualification.

The manager has more troubles than enough but his public proclamations continue to back what insiders claim is his private stance – he is supremely confident things will turn around.

While the rest of us sweat, fret and in many cases call for his head the Chilean continues seemingly untroubled and ready to talk of past and present ambitions.

It’s difficult to work out whether that is an inspiration to the squad or perhaps unrealistic in our present situation. Saturday is a serious, serious test at the hands of a very good team.
