It’s nice to be writing something positive about West Ham for the first time in a while. The game at Cardiff gave the fans what they wanted to see, the players showing some passion and fight. Of course no one is saying one game will change everything but I’m hopefully that the performance will give us the boost we need to go on and try and climb the table because we have an extremely good run of games coming up and can get points out of most of them…

West Ham close to signing the “Gentle Giant” Lacina Traore is close to signing a loan deal at West Ham United which will end at the end of the season. The 6ft8 “Gentle Giant” signed on loan from Monaco who he had just joined for a fee reportedly to be around €15 Million from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. With West Ham struggling with Strikers Traore seems like the perfect short term fix although Andy Carroll is back from his long 7 months out, it will…

As the snow pounds on an already winter weary Toronto, I’m thinking about July 24th 2008. That was the day I became a fan of West Ham United. That evening under a cloudy sky, and a relatively balmy night the MLS All Stars defeated the Hammers 3-2. The score didn’t matter, the Hammers were in training mode, and I saw a real football club in person for the first time. To be fair I had followed TFC from MLS, but this was different. Even David…

I woke up today with the reminder of why I supported West Ham. It was 14th April 1991, I was eight sitting on a coach with my dad and brother heading to Villa Park, Birmingham. What a day it turned out to be. Not the score, as the ref Keith Hackett ruined the game by wrongfully sending off Tony Gale and we lost 4-0. However, our fans continuously sang “Billy Bonds’ Claret and Blue Army”. I remember thinking I will love…

West Ham have been swapping goalkeepers a lot the last few games which isn’t really a good sign but I think it’s a complicated situation, Jussi didn’t deserve to be dropped he’s been an amazing keeper for us but his distribution was poor. Adrian was so good against Spurs, coming up with key saves but also has very good distribution, so after the Spurs game he got his chance in the Premier League and…

West Ham loan League One defender According to Sky Sports and Jack Sullivan, West Ham have signed League One defender Roger Johnson on loan until the end of the season. This is a player that doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence, especially in the times that we are in. After all the talk of us getting Heitinga and also our apparent interest in Lescott, this is somewhat of an anti-climax. Same old West Ham. With all the defensive problems at the moment, I expected a…

QPR interested in West Ham pair Once again, former manager Harry Redknapp is after our players. No surprise there. This time the players in question are Carlton Cole and Joe Cole. These are two players that are quite popular figures at West Ham, with some people regarding Joe Cole as a legend. Redknapp is looking to reinforce his squad, to try and push his side’s promotion campaign further. Let’s first look at Carlton Cole. Redknapp wants the striker to ease…

Where Do We Find The Points? We are just two games away from the halfway point and sit on 14 points. Wins in our next two games put us on pace for 40 points, which is of course the mythical number that guarantees safety from relegation. The reality is that in the last ten years (I did not look further back than that) the most points any relegated team has had is 39 and it is usually about 37 points to really be safe. However, since the traditional number is 40 …

Is Gyan the answer to our problems? The press have linked West Ham United with a move for Ghanian striker, Asamoah Gyan. Gyan is currently playing for Al Ain in the UAE, where he has been extremely prolific, and he is also remembered for some outstanding performances forGhana in the 2010 World Cup. Gyan has previous Premier League experience, after signing for Sunderland in the summer of 2010 – a player who was also strongly linked with West Ham that summer too. Gyan signed …

What should the club do with James Tomkins? Following the recent press coverage of the arrest of James Tomkins at the weekend, what should the club do about it? It certainly puts West Ham United boss, Sam Allardyce, in a difficult position. As supporters, we don’t know the full facts of the case, but to be arrested for being drunk and disorderly, assaulting a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest, doesn’t really look very good does it? I was surprised to hear that it was James Tomkins in trouble, as…

A word of warning after Spurs: inconsistency I had a niggling feeling after we beat Tottenham on Wednesday evening. After the initial buzz; the flurry of gloating texts; the incessant retweets and the replays, I was reminded of the shambles of the home game to Sunderland a few days before. But also, I was mindful of something little spoken of under the tenure of Sam Allardyce: the inconsistency. Allardyce’s West Ham reign – in our Premier League seasons – has been marked by a bizarre roller…

I was down the pub with friends and family before our game at Sunderland and had a conversation regarding the Roy Keane/Patrick Vieira documentary. I personally would have picked Keane just because he was everything a Captain should be! Oh don’t worry, this isn’t another Nolan witch hunt! No comments on the current bile. I loved the fact he literally put the team in front of personal goals for Man Utd i.e. Champions League Final…

I must stress right at the start of this, that it isn’t a knee-jerk reaction to losing 4-1 at Liverpool. It is a combination of being fed up with the tactics and the players that are continuously selected when they under perform on a regular basis. I would like to thank Sam for taking us back up to the prem on the first opportunity but with the squad we had and the fan base, I never thought that was in doubt. …

A Venture Into Statistics: What West Ham’s Goal Differential Means A lot of people are worried about West Ham United right now, they believe that we are going to be in a relegation scrap and are bemoaning the chances of the team. I have thought a lot about it and, while I understand these reactions, I also believe that they are entirely based on emotion. It is true that our results haven’t been good lately and that we are only 3 points …

Foundations Defenders are the unsung heroes of football teams, without them no team can compete, no matter what the level of quality is elsewhere. For this reason, I have some questions: who builds a house starting with the roof? Let’s look at Arsenal, a side who last year came fourth in the Premier League, many writing them off for any chance of even a Champions League place this year, especially after losing their first game 1-3 to Aston Villa. You may point to the signing of Özil …

Joe Cole has been in the press a lot this week and not always for the right reasons. He scored a great goal against Fulham on Saturday to give us a 3-0 lead. Cole was taken off after 26 minutes against Chelsea and went straight down the tunnel because he was rightly frustrated. Everyone seemed to make a very big deal out of it but I don’t really think there’s any need. Leaving and not staying to watch the game didn’t look very…

I must say, what a result and a great team performance!! Ok, I will admit that when I saw the team sheet and saw Ravel and Cole on the bench but more importantly Maiga starting, I was skeptical to say the least. However, after seeing us completely dominate a game and not for the first time this season, I was very pleased with the result. Like every Hammers fan should be. Two things though…one, I honestly think we could’ve started the kids against Martin Jol’s Fulham. I…

Please forgive me if this comes across as utter rubbish, but I’ve always wanted to get my point across about my beloved West Ham Football Club in a blog or even a book ever since I read The Legacy of Barry Green by Robert Banks! A Humble Suggestion for The Repair of West Ham United Football Club Since Sam Allardyce unleashed a 4-6-0 on Tottenham at White Hart Lane that was ripe with creativity, strong on defense, and selectively aggressive on the attack we have, as West Ham fans, been subjected to a series of disastrous games that have left us fearing relegation questioning both the owners and the manager, and wondering what can be done to turn things around. It turns…

Matt Jarvis was a big signing for us last summer but this season he’s been up and down and kind of nowhere. With the signing of Downing, which a lot of fans weren’t happy with but I think he’s alright so far, considering he’s not got a striker to cross to and Joe Cole playing well when he’s fit, Jarvis hasn’t even been in the starting line-up that much. We signed him last year with so much promise of being amazing and now a lot of games he’s not…

West Ham 0-3 Chelsea Match Review Another poor performance! I think it is fair to say that we are in huge trouble and unless Andy Carroll returns by at least January, there is every possibility that we’ll be travelling to Barnsley next year. Chelsea looked much more comfortable on the ball than us from the first minute. We rushed every pass when we had time and laboured on the ball when we didn’t. Nolan was awful and a waste …

When asked of a player we would like to see leave West Ham, there can only be one player on the tip of everyone’s tongues, Modibo Maiga. Rumours have emerged over the past week that this player could be close to a move back to his former club, Sochaux. Last season, Maiga was a player that the fan’s welcomed to be brought on, scoring a handful of goals, when making an appearance. Most people will remember his goal …

Why can’t West Ham get the balance right? It seems Sam Allardyce and his West Ham United squad are having trouble with the balancing act of attack and defence. Away from home, before the Norwich game, we had only conceded 1 goal, and that was from a penalty. We had also had problems scoring barring the freak result against Spurs. It seems that if West Ham don’t go for the win, we manage to shut up shop, and get a clean sheet and a point. But as soon …

A Response to “Is he too good for West Ham?” Over at foreverwestham.com they recently posited the idea that Ravel Morrison is “too good” for West Ham. That soon he will belong in the Champions League and playing for EPL titles. They even take great pains to point out that West Ham will not be competing on that level “any time soon.” There is another point that they are not making, but strongly …

Big Sam’s Negativity Preventing Progression If you’ve ever read any of my opinion pieces for Moore Than A Club in the past you’ll know I’ve always been an admirer of Big Sam. The stability and defensive resoluteness his setup has brought the club has been too long absent from previous West Ham sides. However, football is changing and so must he. Whilst the 4-6-0 deployed for the Spurs game was hugely successful, …
