All we ask for, passion

It’s nice to be writing something positive about West Ham for the first time in a while. The game at Cardiff gave the fans what they wanted to see, the players showing some passion and fight. Of course no one is saying one game will change everything but I’m hopefully that the performance will give us the boost we need to go on and try and climb the table because we have an extremely good run of games coming up and can get points out of most of them…

Onwards and Upwards

What a week it has been for us Hammers!! The mixture of the U21s & a few first team players being beat 5-0 then the horrific first leg at the Etihad on Wednesday was very painful for us BUT what a win it was away from home at Cardiff! Three vital points that lift us out of the bottom three and hopefully a springboard to kick us on. I will be honest after Wednesday, I thought we would…

Striker close to joining West Ham on loan

West Ham close to signing the “Gentle Giant” Lacina Traore is close to signing a loan deal at West Ham United which will end at the end of the season. The 6ft8 “Gentle Giant” signed on loan from Monaco who he had just joined for a fee reportedly to be around €15 Million from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. With West Ham struggling with Strikers Traore seems like the perfect short term fix although Andy Carroll is back from his long 7 months out, it will…

To be a West Ham fan

To be a West Ham fan Being a West Ham fan is the best feeling in the world. It can also been the worst feeling in the world! Ecstasy, thrill, happiness, overwhelming and a joy are just some words that spring to mind when I think West Ham but they also comes with the feelings of dread, despair, sadness and disappointment but do you know what… I wouldn’t have it any…

Parker, Zola and me

As the snow pounds on an already winter weary Toronto, I’m thinking about July 24th 2008. That was the day I became a fan of West Ham United. That evening under a cloudy sky, and a relatively balmy night the MLS All Stars defeated the Hammers 3-2. The score didn’t matter, the Hammers were in training mode, and I saw a real football club in person for the first time. To be fair I had followed TFC from MLS, but this was different. Even David…

West Ham goalkeeper dilemma

West Ham have been swapping goalkeepers a lot the last few games which isn’t really a good sign but I think it’s a complicated situation, Jussi didn’t deserve to be dropped he’s been an amazing keeper for us but his distribution was poor.  Adrian was so good against Spurs, coming up with key saves but also has very good distribution, so after the Spurs game he got his chance in the Premier League and…

A new year, a new hope

I often say West Ham never play two half’s the same, if we play well in the first half then we won’t play as good second half. More often than not that seems to be the case so as we are getting to half way through the season, I’m hoping we don’t play the same way as we have been doing and I think there is reason to be hopeful that we won’t. I know it keeps being delayed but Andy Carroll really shouldn’t be too far…

QPR interested in West Ham pair

QPR interested in West Ham pair Once again, former manager Harry Redknapp is after our players. No surprise there. This time the players in question are Carlton Cole and Joe Cole. These are two players that are quite popular figures at West Ham, with some people regarding Joe Cole as a legend.  Redknapp is looking to reinforce his squad, to try and push his side’s promotion campaign further. Let’s first look at Carlton Cole. Redknapp wants the striker to ease…

West Ham submit bid for striker

Since the window opened on Wednesday, the rumours have been coming in thick and fast as West Ham. It seems as if we are looking at players in two position primarily, centre back and striker. Well, it appears as if West Ham have lodged a bid for a striker, according to reports this morning. The sum is rumoured to be around the £6 million mark, and the player in question is none other than former Hammer Demba Ba. Demba …

Where do we find the points?

Where Do We Find The Points? We are just two games away from the halfway point and sit on 14 points. Wins in our next two games put us on pace for 40 points, which is of course the mythical number that guarantees safety from relegation.  The reality is that in the last ten years (I did not look further back than that) the most points any relegated team has had is 39 and it is usually about 37 points to really be safe. However, since the traditional number is 40 …

Is Gyan the answer to our problems?

Is Gyan the answer to our problems? The press have linked West Ham United with a move for Ghanian striker, Asamoah Gyan.  Gyan is currently playing for Al Ain in the UAE, where he has been extremely prolific, and he is also remembered for some outstanding performances forGhana in the 2010 World Cup. Gyan has previous Premier League experience, after signing for Sunderland in the summer of 2010 – a player who was also strongly linked with West Ham that summer too.  Gyan signed …

A player I would look to sign in the January window

A player I would look to sign in the January window With West Ham struggling this season, everyone has been quick to point out that we lack goals and that a striker is crucial in the coming window. This is something I totally agree with, we are missing the presence of Carroll up front and we can’t guarantee when he will be back, with a recurring ankle injury. However instead of pointing out the obvious in this …

Stick or Twist – The Great Managerial Gamble

Stick or Twist – The Great Managerial Gamble As it currently stands, West Ham are the only team in the bottom 5 of the Premier League who have not made a managerial change. An alarming statistic for those who believe change is a good thing. However, it might also lead to you ask if there is any merit in the wisdom of our fellow relegation battlers decisions. After all…they are still all in the bottom 5. Following the bore draw against Sunderland – themselves having made a managerial change …

A word of warning before Arsenal

A word of warning after Spurs: inconsistency I had a niggling feeling after we beat Tottenham on Wednesday evening. After the initial buzz; the flurry of gloating texts; the incessant retweets and the replays, I was reminded of the shambles of the home game to Sunderland a few days before. But also, I was mindful of something little spoken of under the tenure of Sam Allardyce: the inconsistency. Allardyce’s West Ham reign – in our Premier League seasons – has been marked by a bizarre roller…

Who could be leaving West Ham in January?

West Ham are always linked with every player going when the transfer window comes around. Likewise our own players always seem to be linked with moves; two in particular have been frequently mentioned. The first player that is always linked to be leaving  is Winston Reid. Arguably our best player,  who we’ve really struggled without the last few games and I really hope he can start playing again soon but it…

Why we owe a lot of Gold and Sullivan

Due to the difficult times the club are going through at the moment there’s been a lot of negativity towards the owners and particularly David Gold because he has twitter and fans can message him easily. I don’t think the hard time he’s getting is fair because looking at the bigger picture he’s done a lot of good for the club. I don’t think we’d be in the premier league right now if they hadn’t been there to…

Time to go Big Sam

I must stress right at the start of this, that it isn’t a knee-jerk reaction to losing 4-1 at Liverpool. It is a combination of being fed up with the tactics and the players that are continuously selected when they under perform on a regular basis. I would like to thank Sam for taking us back up to the prem on the first opportunity but with the squad we had and the fan base, I never thought that was in doubt. …

5 Quick Fixes to West Ham’s Striker Problem

5 Quick Fixes To West Ham’s Striker Problem It is a well known problem that West Ham are lacking goals this season. We are definitely missing the services of the big money man, Andy Carroll. However our lack of ability to sign a second quality striker has cost us dearly this season. So, here I propose five quick fixes to our striker problem when the window re-opens in January, whether Carroll is…

A Venture Into Statistics: What West Ham’s Goal Difference Means

A Venture Into Statistics: What West Ham’s Goal Differential Means A lot of people are worried about West Ham United right now, they believe that we are going to be in a relegation scrap and are bemoaning the chances of the team. I have thought a lot about it and, while I understand these reactions, I also believe that they are entirely based on emotion. It is true that our results haven’t been good lately and that we are only 3 points …

The reason I’m behind Big Sam

The reason I’m behind Big Sam Sam Allardyce is in the biggest blip of his West Ham career right now.  After two seasons of relative success, he finds his West Ham United team near the relegation zone, following a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers, Crystal Palace. I very doubt the pressure is going to get lifted this weekend with an Away trip to Anfield against a very much in form Luis Suarez and Liverpool.  We haven’t won at Anfield since 1963, …

We should have bought defenders

Foundations Defenders are the unsung heroes of football teams, without them no team can compete, no matter what the level of quality is elsewhere. For this reason, I have some questions: who builds a house starting with the roof? Let’s look at Arsenal, a side who last year came fourth in the Premier League, many writing them off for any chance of even a Champions League place this year, especially after losing their first game 1-3 to Aston Villa. You may point to the signing of Özil …

What do I think of the current squad?

Apparently every cloud has a silver lining but I fail to see what the upside of losing to one of the worst teams in Premiership history is, in Crystal Palace! Now I really fear that we are in a dogfight and at the moment as I said in my first article, who is going to score the goals? I’m very glad that Andy Carroll has finally arrived back at Chadwell Heath and is training again. However, we need him now. The …

Keep the faith Joe Cole

Joe Cole has been in the press a lot this week and not always for the right reasons. He scored a great goal against Fulham on Saturday to give us a 3-0 lead. Cole was taken off after 26 minutes against Chelsea and went straight down the tunnel because he was rightly frustrated. Everyone seemed to make a very big deal out of it but I don’t really think there’s any need. Leaving and not staying to watch the game didn’t look very…

Even with starting Maiga!

I must say, what a result and a great team performance!! Ok, I will admit that when I saw the team sheet and saw Ravel and Cole on the bench but more importantly Maiga starting, I was skeptical to say the least. However, after seeing us completely dominate a game and not for the first time this season, I was very pleased with the result. Like every Hammers fan should be. Two things though…one, I honestly think we could’ve started the kids against Martin Jol’s Fulham. I…

The Repair of West Ham United

A Humble Suggestion for The Repair of West Ham United Football Club Since Sam Allardyce unleashed a 4-6-0 on Tottenham at White Hart Lane that was ripe with creativity, strong on defense, and selectively aggressive on the attack we have, as West Ham fans, been subjected to a series of disastrous games that have left us fearing relegation questioning both the owners and the manager, and wondering what can be done to turn things around.  It turns…
