The reason I’m behind Big Sam Sam Allardyce is in the biggest blip of his West Ham career right now. After two seasons of relative success, he finds his West Ham United team near the relegation zone, following a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers, Crystal Palace. I very doubt the pressure is going to get lifted this weekend with an Away trip to Anfield against a very much in form Luis Suarez and Liverpool. We haven’t won at Anfield since 1963, …

Foundations Defenders are the unsung heroes of football teams, without them no team can compete, no matter what the level of quality is elsewhere. For this reason, I have some questions: who builds a house starting with the roof? Let’s look at Arsenal, a side who last year came fourth in the Premier League, many writing them off for any chance of even a Champions League place this year, especially after losing their first game 1-3 to Aston Villa. You may point to the signing of Özil …

Apparently every cloud has a silver lining but I fail to see what the upside of losing to one of the worst teams in Premiership history is, in Crystal Palace! Now I really fear that we are in a dogfight and at the moment as I said in my first article, who is going to score the goals? I’m very glad that Andy Carroll has finally arrived back at Chadwell Heath and is training again. However, we need him now. The …

Joe Cole has been in the press a lot this week and not always for the right reasons. He scored a great goal against Fulham on Saturday to give us a 3-0 lead. Cole was taken off after 26 minutes against Chelsea and went straight down the tunnel because he was rightly frustrated. Everyone seemed to make a very big deal out of it but I don’t really think there’s any need. Leaving and not staying to watch the game didn’t look very…

Please forgive me if this comes across as utter rubbish, but I’ve always wanted to get my point across about my beloved West Ham Football Club in a blog or even a book ever since I read The Legacy of Barry Green by Robert Banks! It’s a great book by the way. Anyway, I digress. So I’m hoping that this does that dream justice. So where shall I start? Perhaps with Saturday’s must win…

A Humble Suggestion for The Repair of West Ham United Football Club Since Sam Allardyce unleashed a 4-6-0 on Tottenham at White Hart Lane that was ripe with creativity, strong on defense, and selectively aggressive on the attack we have, as West Ham fans, been subjected to a series of disastrous games that have left us fearing relegation questioning both the owners and the manager, and wondering what can be done to turn things around. It turns…

Matt Jarvis was a big signing for us last summer but this season he’s been up and down and kind of nowhere. With the signing of Downing, which a lot of fans weren’t happy with but I think he’s alright so far, considering he’s not got a striker to cross to and Joe Cole playing well when he’s fit, Jarvis hasn’t even been in the starting line-up that much. We signed him last year with so much promise of being amazing and now a lot of games he’s not…

West Ham 0-3 Chelsea Match Review Another poor performance! I think it is fair to say that we are in huge trouble and unless Andy Carroll returns by at least January, there is every possibility that we’ll be travelling to Barnsley next year. Chelsea looked much more comfortable on the ball than us from the first minute. We rushed every pass when we had time and laboured on the ball when we didn’t. Nolan was awful and a waste …

When asked of a player we would like to see leave West Ham, there can only be one player on the tip of everyone’s tongues, Modibo Maiga. Rumours have emerged over the past week that this player could be close to a move back to his former club, Sochaux. Last season, Maiga was a player that the fan’s welcomed to be brought on, scoring a handful of goals, when making an appearance. Most people will remember his goal …

Why can’t West Ham get the balance right? It seems Sam Allardyce and his West Ham United squad are having trouble with the balancing act of attack and defence. Away from home, before the Norwich game, we had only conceded 1 goal, and that was from a penalty. We had also had problems scoring barring the freak result against Spurs. It seems that if West Ham don’t go for the win, we manage to shut up shop, and get a clean sheet and a point. But as soon …

A Response to “Is he too good for West Ham?” Over at foreverwestham.com they recently posited the idea that Ravel Morrison is “too good” for West Ham. That soon he will belong in the Champions League and playing for EPL titles. They even take great pains to point out that West Ham will not be competing on that level “any time soon.” There is another point that they are not making, but strongly …

Big Sam’s Negativity Preventing Progression If you’ve ever read any of my opinion pieces for Moore Than A Club in the past you’ll know I’ve always been an admirer of Big Sam. The stability and defensive resoluteness his setup has brought the club has been too long absent from previous West Ham sides. However, football is changing and so must he. Whilst the 4-6-0 deployed for the Spurs game was hugely successful, …

All I’ve seen on Twitter and social media over the last couple of weeks is people blaming Kevin Nolan for West Ham’s run of bad form, and yes he’s not in his greatest form at the moment and he defiantly plays best when he has a target man to play off of which is actually when the whole team plays best. That’s the way we have worked for years play around a target man like Andy …

It’s been a difficult start to the season for the Hammers but I think it’s time we look at the positives but not necessarily with the first team. We have an amazing under 21’s squad and a few in particular I think have the potential to be real future stars hopefully for the club. To start with Leo Chambers he’s played in a few of our Capital Cup games and has been amazing, he is a strong defender who’s looked solid in …

Reid it and weep. It was only going to be a matter of time. We’ve been sussed out. Years after we West Ham fans worked it out, several so called bigger clubs have cottoned on to it too. And that is that Winston Reid is one hell of a good Centre Half. If we’re truthful to ourselves, we’ll admit it took us a while to unanimously agree on. A signing originally pitched to…

Where Do We Go From here? As you have all figured out by now I tend to be an optimist when it comes to West Ham United. It is pretty clear after this epic collapse in the second half today though that things need to change. The question is what do we do? Where do we go from here? It seems that there are two key questions going forward: what do…

Another 0-0, and it’s beginning to get get quite irritating now, when I tell my friends this they say, ‘at least you’re not conceding’, this makes it all the more annoying for me. If we’re not conceding then really, we’ve got to be winning. On wards to Norwich and I can see a similar game panning out. Should this happen we could become the first team to draw three Premier League games in a …

Friend or Defoe? They say that the second album is always the trickiest. Sequels never live up to the original. That once you’ve gone, you should never go back . Try telling that to Julian Dicks. Or Tony Cottee. Both outstanding players who after brief forays at opposite sides of Stanley Park, came back to Upton Park and continued in the same rich veins of form as their earlier careers. However, players with such natural ability as Frank McAvennie and Joe Cole have disappointed…

Nolan- Does Sam really see him as vital I don’t think that it comes as a shock to any West Ham fan that Kevin Nolan retains his place in the starting eleven week after week. Not because of his blistering form or ability which we would crumble without; but his relationship with Big Sam. Many of us would not be surprised to learn that the pair are related. The sad truth is…

The change in Vaz Te Since West Ham United got promoted back to the Premier League, I have been a big critic of Ricardo Vaz Te and his laclustre performances. However, I’m also a big enough person to say that I have been impressed with his change in attitude since his return to the first team following his hissy fit on Transfer Deadline Week, whereby he handed in a transfer request. …

Well, that was the Plan…but what next? I’ll be honest; I never thought it would happen. Sam unveiled his spectacular Plan B, and it has worked. 4 points from the last 3 games is a fantastic return considering the opposition we’ve faced. Even the most optimistic of fans would have probably predicted just the one point. The old tactical genius that is Big Sam pulled a masterstroke against Spurs. It worked well against Swansea, but the notion of…

As I predicted, it was an even game against Swansea, a draw, no goals, a stalemate. Once again our solid defensive work is making up for our severe lack-luster front line, and now, we’ve lost Vaz Te as well. Fingers crossed we will have just about enough to take us through another round tonight. We avoided the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City in the fourth-round draw but a trip to Turf …

After a fantastic result vs Tottenham I was thoroughly hoping for an even better one against Man City; sadly this was not to be. It wasn’t a bad performance but it was a true display of how different the class is at the top. It wasn’t a bad performance from West Ham but it was far from vintage. Swansea come into this game on the back of a bitterly disappointing late…

Coming off of another home defeat isn’t great but considering it was against a city team tipped to win the league and a squad that cost hundreds of millions I’m not too disheartened but for the first time this season it’s called to questions our defence for many reasons including no Collins and Reid’s shocker. Our defence is normally first class so it’s down to one question Tomkins or Collins? Yes Collins was injured this week from…

Will The ‘False Nine’ Work? In our last two games, Big Sam has adopted a new formation to send out onto the pitch as a result of the failings of Modibo Maiga up front on his own, or at least the failing to make it work. The formation Sam chose was inventive to say the least. Drawing inspiration for the incredible Spanish national team, he decided the best thing to do once he failed …
